General

What is Bilateral Waves and how does it help me?

It is your personal bilateral studio. It offers a softer place to nest when you need to ground your nervous system. By combining calming visuals with rhythmic left-to-right audio, it helps your body naturally release tension, quiet overwhelming thoughts, and restore internal calm.

Do I need special equipment to listen to the soundscapes?

We highly recommend stereo headphones or earbuds to fully experience the left-to-right grounding rhythm. If you prefer to use your phone, tablet, or laptop speakers, ensure they support stereo sound and sit comfortably centered in front of your device.

How do I begin a soundscape session and prepare my space?

Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. Dim the lights and minimize distractions. Put on your headphones, select a soundscape that matches your needs, choose your session length, and press play.

How long should my session be?

It is entirely up to you. Choose your own session length, from a quick forty-five-second reset to a full hour of deep relaxation before sleep. Custom session lengths are available through our premium plans.

Do I need to watch the screen during my session?

Not at all. If you close your eyes, your brain still fully experiences the calming audio waves. If you prefer a visual focus, you can expand the view and let your eyes rest on the soft, alternating rhythm.

What should I focus on during my soundscape session?

There is no wrong way to practice. You can let your mind track the gentle sweeping sound or rest your eyes on the moving visual waves. If thoughts float in, allow them to pass and gently return your focus to the rhythm.

Can I use Bilateral Waves while working or studying?

Yes. Many of our soundscapes support gentle daytime focus. We recommend saving our deeper relaxation and sleep tracks for when you are ready to fully unwind.

For Therapists

What tools are included in the therapist’s studio and what do the plans unlock?

The therapist’s studio is a dual-purpose dashboard featuring our real-time bilateral tools for active processing sets, alongside our library of bilateral soundscapes for grounding and integration.

  • The Free Studio: Core access to both spaces, including standard processing tones, visual cues, backgrounds, and soundscapes.
  • The Pro Studio: Unlocks our complete premium library of specialized tones and soundscapes, advanced customization such as practice logo branding, and the ability to securely assign at-home client playlists. (Click here to view our Pricing Page (opens in a new tab)).
How do I invite a client into a live, shared session?

Click Begin Session in the upper right corner of your dashboard to instantly generate a secure, temporary link. Copy and share this link through your telehealth chat or email, and your client will seamlessly join your space the moment they click it.

What does my client see when I share a session link?

Your client sees a beautiful, distraction-free window showing only your moving visual waves, backgrounds, and synchronized audio. Your clinician dashboard, controls, and settings remain completely hidden from their view.

What is the Connection Safety Stop and how does it work?

This is a built-in protective feature for your live sessions. If your client’s internet drops or they accidentally close their browser window, your studio will automatically pause the active bilateral rhythm. This ensures that no processing sets continue without your guidance and allows you to seamlessly resume once they reconnect.

Can I switch between Traditional and Soundscapes during a session?

Yes. Your studio features automatic Screen Sync, meaning your client’s screen instantly updates in real time to match your view when you change tabs. If you prefer to manage transitions manually, you can adjust this feature in your settings.

Can the therapeutic experience be visual, auditory, or both for the client?

You can choose to track visual color cues, follow the rhythmic auditory tones, or combine both for a fully immersive experience. The tools adapt completely to your client's sensory needs.

What do the Run, Pause, Stop, and Reset controls do?

These live controls manage your active bilateral sets:

  • Run: Starts the synchronized bilateral rhythm.
  • Pause: Temporarily halts tracking for quick check-ins during a set.
  • Stop: Completes the active processing set.
  • Reset: Clears your current pacing choices so you can begin fresh.
How does the Create Playlist feature work for at-home support?

Pro members can securely extend care between sessions. You can select up to three calming soundscapes during your live session or as it is ending to generate a private link that gives your client two weeks of at-home access to their familiar grounding tools. Your studio supports up to 50 active links.

Is Bilateral Waves secure to use alongside my telehealth platform?

Yes. Bilateral Waves is built with privacy at the forefront and acts as a safe, invisible companion to your private practice. Because we do not collect, track, or store any client names, clinical notes, or Protected Health Information, your sessions carry an exceptionally low privacy risk. The temporary links generated for your clients are completely anonymous in transit, ensuring your workflow remains highly secure.
